Family Life Education (FLE) Certificate Course


In response to this nationwide need, the School of Education and Human Development (SED) of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) has designed and now offers a certificate course on family life education.

The course draws on various sources for its content and design: the international and local literature on family life education, the “content areas” identified by the National Council on Family Relations and family life education experts, and notes of experience of local groups and organizations involved in helping families meet their various needs.

These are the 12 modules in the certificate course:

  3. Interpersonal Relationships, Family Dynamics, and “People Skills” Development
  4. Parent Education, Family Counseling, and Mentoring

    Schedule

    June 14 to October 28, 2025

    Classes are held every Saturday. The schedule of sessions (six hours per day) is 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:30 to 4:30 pm.

    Learning Mode

    • Blended Learning: a mix of in-person and online classes
    • In-person classes: UA&P Campus, Pearl Drive, Ortigas Center, Pasig City

    Fees

    PhP 25,000 (payable in two installments: 50% upon admission and 50% before the 11th meeting)
    *Partial scholarships are available, subject to evaluation by the Admissions Committee after individual interviews with applicants

    Admission Requirements

    • High school diploma
    • Letter of recommendation from the head of an organization or a reputable individual who can vouch for the applicant’s character
    • Interview with a UA&P representative

Certificate in Professional Teaching (18 units of Teacher Education courses)

SED’s Certificate Program in Professional Teaching offers the required 18 units of professional education subjects needed by a non-Bachelor of Secondary Education graduate to take the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) Secondary Level and enter the Teaching Profession. This is a 2-semester program, with 6 weeks per subject. Each subject will be offered one at a time, one weekday per week from 5 pm-8 pm, in a fully online learning mode. Synchronous and asynchronous modes of delivery will be through CANVAS.


The UA&P School of Education and Human Development (SED) also offers courses during the school year and accepts attendees on a non-degree credit or audit basis for the continuing education of practitioners and school administrators. Applications to these courses should be submitted at least three weeks prior to commencement. Non-degree credit students are required to undergo the School’s admissions procedure (submit the necessary documents, take the Graduate Level Test, and go through the admissions interview).

Organization and Management of Early Childhood Programs

This course aims to provide students with a variety of opportunities to apply their knowledge in early childhood education, for the improvement of necessary systems and operations among existing early education programs. It includes discussions of the principles, processes, and practices involved in managing and organizing different early childhood education programs. The final output of this course is for the student to come up with a feasibility study of his or her own preschool.

School-based Management

The course provides students an overview of school-based management, its objectives, its theoretical and practical bases, its dynamics and realities, and the role that educational leaders play in formulating, implementing, and assessing a school-based management program. These aspects and issues are studied using a framework that views a school both as an organization and as a community.

Lifespan Development Psychology/Child and Adolescent Development

This course provides an overview of growth and total development across the lifespan from prenatal growth to late adulthood and focuses on core contemporary research findings and theories on the foundations and key dimensions of child and adolescent development. This combines theory with practice by integrating universal principles / theories of development with application to the cultural context of the Filipino family and school setting.

Work and Society

A study of the worker and his social realities, this course seeks to develop an appreciation of man’s interaction, role and relevance as an employee or an employer in society with respect to its given institutions. An analysis of the person as a professional and its moral ramifications are to be discussed, along with a focus on ethical issues relevant to Information Technology.

Psychology of Teaching and Learning

The course studies the different theories on how students can learn with increased effectiveness. It examines the role of psychology as applied to school and training situations. Students study the basic tenets of teaching, learning, and motivation, as well as individual differences and the interplay of nature and nurture in the teaching and learning relationships.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

UA&P through the School of Education and Human Development, is an accredited CPD Provider for Professional Teachers. 

We offer CPD seminars with corresponding CPD Units that Licensed Professional Teachers can gain for the renewal of their license. SED also offers CPD Seminars for an institution that wants to have an exclusive seminar for their teachers.

Registration for the November run of Understanding and Dealing with Developmental Delays is now open! This one-day seminar will provide the participants with the framework and systematic process of looking into a child who might have delay in one or more areas of development and gain understanding on what assessments to get and where to go for help.

Happening on November 16, 2024 at the Telengtan Hall, UA&P from 8am-5pm.

People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Diploma Course

UA&P -SED together with the People Management Association of the Philippines, offers a Diploma Course with five Certificate courses in Human Capital and Organization Development.

This includes the following:

Certificate in Human Resource Development
Certificate in Human Resource Planning and Acquisition
Certificate in Labor Relations
Certificate in Organization Development
Certificate in Compensation Management

A Certificate from PMAP and UA&P will be given to participants who completed a course, while a Diploma will be given to participants who finished all the certificate programs.

Students who attended a PMAP Diploma Course may continue to MS HCOD for a Masteral Degree. PMAP Courses will be credited upon acceptance into the Program.

Faculty Lecture Series (FLS)

SED Faculty Lecture Series is a venue for the professional development of the members of the UA&P SED community. This is an opportunity for our faculty members to showcase their research work and feature their advocacies. For our students and friends, this is a chance to be enlightened on pertinent issues affecting our educational system and the learning of our students.
